It’s always a load of fun participating in a fun run with friends and family. Here are some tips to help you cross the finish line:
Pace yourself
It’s always good to have a plan. Whether that’s to lead from the front, pace yourself off another competitor or even just challenge yourself not to stop for the whole event, it pays to have a plan of attack to ensure you achieve your goals.
Stay hydrated
It’s crucial to be well hydrated prior to participating in an event. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends about 600ml of water 4-hours prior to the event to keep you hydrated.
Get strong and stay strong
Getting in some well-balanced training lead up to the event can pay big dividends come race day. Did you know there are three energy systems humans use to complete physical activity? Training each of these systems leading up to an event can have a massive impact on performance.
Recover well
Recovery is different things to different people. It’s always important to replenish lost fluids, eat a nutritious meal, and get some well-earned sleep. Other strategies are remedial massage therapy and meditation.
